25.05.11 – On Day 2 of the UK National Championships, four inshore races were held on Weymouth Bay on next year’s Olympic courses, with a 1.2 mile beat that was shortened to 1 mile after the second race when the wind dropped to single figures and swung left by 50 degrees. In the compact seven boat fleet, Conrad and Olly Young sailing together onboard DMS, took a mixed of results with a scoreline of 2-4-3-5
However, a 5-2-2-1 scoreline was enough to propel Jean-Charles Monnet and Alexandre Toulorge up to level points with Conrad and Olly, winners of the double points scoring cross-Channel race from Cherbourg to Portland. Nicolas Jossier and Alexis Loison on Entreprendre en Pays Granvillais are just two points behind in third.
The UK Figaro National Championship results after day 2 of racing are as follows:
1. Jean-Charles Monnet & Alexandre Toulorge 11 points
2. Conrad Humphreys & Olly Young 11 points
3. Nicolas Jossier & Alexis Loison 13 points
4. Sam Goodchild & Nick Cherry 15 points
5. Ollie Bond & Will Jackson 18 points
6. Sam Matson & Henery Bomby 26 points
7. Nigel King & Stephen Hopson 36 points
A coastal race from Portland & Weymouth is scheduled for tomorrow, Day 3 of the event.
UPDATE: The 6 hour-long coastal race scheduled for day 3 of the UK Figaro National Championships were cancelled following an initial postponement due to 30 knot winds in Weymouth. The final results therefore remain the same as the standings at the end of day 2, listed above.
